Description:
Insurance organization on the West Coast (US) has a need for a senior level Workers Compensation Actuary. The Actuary will work closely with the lead Actuary in virtually all aspects of the actuarial function of the company. The role has a particular emphasis on core ratemaking and data collection processes, Committee processes, and external communications.

The specific responsibilities of the position include: analyzing and evaluating statistical data for rates, supervising actuarial analysts and assistants in various aspects of analyses, setting project task schedules and timelines, overseeing the progress of projects and guiding projects to completion in an accurate and timely manner, assisting in the preparation of proposals for revision of rates and rating plans, presenting components of the company rate filing at public hearings, preparing and presenting components of the agenda and minutes for meetings of the Actuarial Committee, assisting in the formulation and conduct of studies pertaining to the rate-making process, developing and implementing enhancements to company data collection and validation processes including leading the effort to collect medical transactional data, performing peer reviews actuarial analyses conducted by the Director of Actuarial Research and Vice President of Actuarial Services, maintaining contacts with relevant outside organizations, reviewing bills introduced to the State Legislature to determine their effect upon workers’ compensation insurance and the company, speaking before various groups to explain and interpret the workers’ compensation ratemaking process and preparing statistical reports as requested by management. The incumbent must be highly effective with communicating, both oral and written, in order to translate and relate information about rate-making activities to Management, company committees and other interested groups.
