A national consulting firm has an opening for a Principal-level consulting actuary with more than 20 years of experience to serve in a leadership role in its very successful Southern California Retirement Practice. This is a position of high visibility within a 20-person department and an $8 million book of business. This individual will also serve as a right-hand person to the Practice Leader and will have a prominent position within the practice, advising top clients, leading and mentoring teams, assisting with business development and serving as a thought leader. Responsibilities: managing consulting relationships profitably while achieving a high level of client retention and appropriate levels of growth (through existing and new client relationships); meeting the financial reporting requirements of the firm; implementing best practices and standardized procedures for valuation clients to ensure maximum realization; ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships; ability to lead client meetings to gather information, establish needs, clarify expectations, develop strategy and obtain feedback; ability to recognize upcoming client issues; strong track record in identifying client needs and opportunities to introduce or cross- products and services; experience in proposal drafting and new business presentations; background in thought leadership initiatives, promoting firm visibility and developing contacts through speaking engagements, publications and participation in industry and professional associations; and implementing best practices. This individual will also assist in people development, including:
interviewing, recruiting and hiring high quality staff; mentoring and training staff; conducting performance appraisals of direct reports; and leading staff to high efficiency and chargeability. Requirements: 20 + years of Retirement consulting experience; FSA/EA preferred or minimally ASA/EA; Bachelor’s degree; experienced Account Executive in HR/benefits consulting firms, managing $2 million in annual revenue; experience with large accounts; strong relationship skills and business development skills ($1-1.5 Million per year); able to project confidence and leadership in meetings and client management; Retirement consulting experience or knowledge of the Los Angeles Market is an advantage.
