Description

Insurance company in the Mid-Atlantic region has a need for an Actuarial Risk Officer. The incumbent will design, implement and manage risk processes that provide an early warning of events or conditions that may impair the performance of the business. The incumbent will be a business solution oriented individual to provide strategic recommendations to improve capital efficiency and enhance returns. Specifically, the role will involve the following: providing risk modeling and other critical analysis for significant potential emerging risks, extreme events, and capital management threats, recommending controls and /or early warning indicators to mitigate exposure, evaluating inherent and emerging risks , determining the appropriate allocation of surplus across product lines, collaborating with the actuarial modeling team to design and implement production process to perform scenario analysis including stress testing, sensitivity and worst case to assess asset and liability portfolio exposure of risk tolerances associated with the company risk appetite statement, collaborating with the actuarial modeling team to design and implement economic capital and stochastic models across all lines of business, evaluating reinsurance programs, conducting targeted risk focused assessments of the impact of mortality, developing and preparing liability risk dashboards and surveillance reports for board meetings, presentations and key company reports, recommending risk avoidance strategies, risk mitigation actions and controls for lines of business and functions, implementing mitigation strategies for the risks identified and accepted, remediating reported gaps in accordance with company guidelines and timeframes, monitoring industry developments and ERM Best Practices and recommending process improvements as appropriate, participating in all key corporate initiatives to identify risks and mitigants. Candidates should have solid experience in complex life and annuity insurance modeling including scenario and economic capital calculations, knowledge of or exposure to ORSA, work experience using research methods to identify areas of risk or exposure and proper measurement and reporting techniques. Additionally, candidates should have strong problem-solving skills that include advanced analytical, modeling and reasoning abilities, the ability to establish and maintain strong relationships, strong public speaking and presentation skills, strong leadership skills and proficiency with modeling systems.
